Many cyberattacks now originate deep within digital supply chains. We witness that attackers are shifting their focus from traditional perimeter breaches to lateral movement through trusted partners. A single compromised vendor can grant access to dozens – if not hundreds – of downstream clients.
The threat of supply chain attacks, including ransomware and distributed denial of service (DDoS), is not likely to recede. In fact, as geopolitical tensions continue to ripple through global trade routes, risks are likely to intensify. But Swiss companies don’t have to be caught off guard.
By proactively vetting vendors, investing in secure technologies, embedding cybersecurity into contractual relationships and observing the cybersecurity controls effectiveness at their outsourcing providers, businesses can close critical gaps in their defense. In doing so, they not only protect themselves, they also strengthen the broader economic ecosystem. In a landscape where the weakest link can bring down the whole chain, cybersecurity has to be top priority.
