Ranveer is a consultant working within our Acturial Life team. Outside of EY, she is a dance enthusiast and content creator. Read more to understand Ranveer’s career journey since 2018, when she joined EY as a graduate.
I joined EY as a graduate in our Actuarial Life team in September 2018 after previously undertaking a summer internship in the Business Tax Services team. I studied an undergraduate degree in Math and a postgraduate degree in Actuarial Science. During my time at university, I also took part in multiple dance competitions in London and Birmingham. Outside of my role, I am also co-chair of the EY Sikh Community, which is one of the five faith communities that make up EY Embrace, and our Faith & Belief network.
EY is a well-recognized global organization that not only provides high-quality service but also promotes a culture of inclusive leadership. I was attracted by their focus on many social issues too. There are various networks such as Embrace; the Race & Ethnicity Network (REN), Ability EY, (the Life Network, Women’s network and Unity (LGBTQ+ Network), who raise awareness on the diversity of our people.
As a Math graduate, I always had a broad range of career paths to choose from. Towards the end of my studies though, my friend suggested I explore the field of Actuarial. My skillset and strengths are within the analytical and problem solving area so it felt like a good fit! So, I continued to explore the field and consulted many professionals for more insights, before making a final decision. I now work mainly with Life insurance companies and banks, but my team also works with asset management firms. I enjoy working in a large team, who have tremendous knowledge and this motivates me.
I use a lot of problem solving, analytical skills and communication skills for this role. It is also very important to have time-management skills, attention to detail and report writing skills in order to produce high quality work. As I have progressed, my responsibility has also grown. I am currently managing the expectations from senior members as well as guiding junior members of the team in their growth and development. In terms of continuous learning too, EY offers a free subscription to a learning platform called Udemy, which I am using to learn programming.
We are currently living in a changing technological world and our team has remained at the forefront of this, supporting multiple clients in this area. We focus on a variety of hot topics, e.g., sustainability affecting the insurance industry so there is huge variety in the work we get to do.
I feel very lucky to work for a firm where the culture highly rewards innovation and the creativity of individuals, supporting employees to bring their ideas to life.
